About the Milk

What is raw milk?

Raw milk is milk that has not been pasteurized.  After the animal is milked the milk is chilled and bottled according to state standards.

What kind of milk do you have?

We offer Raw Goat and Raw Cow milk.  Both are unpasteurized and non-homogenized and are considered whole milk.

How do you sell your milk?

We sell both goat and cow milk by the half-gallon.

What is the difference between goat and cow milk?

Well, let’s start with that goat milk comes from goats and cow milk comes from cows. Now let’s get into the science when you look at the macro nutritional stats of both goat and cow milk as they are very similar. Goat milk is higher in calcium, potassium, and vitamin A than cow milk, but cow milk is higher in vitamin B12, selenium, and folic acid. Goat milk is easier on the digestive system, the globules of fat molecules are smaller, and the levels of micro proteins are also less which makes it much easier to digest.

Is raw milk safe?

The simple answer is yes! Pasteurization did not become common until the 1920s and humans have been drinking milk for many, many, many years.

Do you pasteurize or homogenize your milk?

Our milk is not pasteurized or homogenized.  The milk fat content will vary during different times of the year.

Is your milk tested & are you licensed?

Yes, the State of Texas inspects our dairy and  process regularly and tests our milk.

Yes, we had to be lisenced before we could sell our milk to the public. We dotted all the I’s and crossed all the T’s! We are a fully licensed raw dairy! And Lyn maintains her food handler’s license.

Is your milk organic?

We do not offer certified organic milk, but we know exactly what goes into our cows and goats and this is some of the best quality milk you will ever find.

Is your milk A2/A2?

Yes! All our cows have tested and confirmed A2/A2.

What is the big deal with A2/A2?

A2/A2 milk is not nutritionally superior, it simply lacks the A1 beta-casein protein found in some cow milk. A2/A2 milk can be helpful if consuming milk causes the drinker gastrointestinal discomfort (tummy trouble).  This is not the same as being lactose intolerant. However, many people who have problems with milk, and are labeled lactose intolerant, are able to consume raw milk without problems.

Can I get 2% milk?

We offer only Raw Goat and Cow Milk that has not been homogenized. This would be considered Whole Milk.

Can I make butter with your milk?

Yes!  Skim the cream, put it in a jar, shake it up and you will get butter!  I will warn you it is a workout so you might find a less manual way of doing it.

Can I substitute goat milk for cow milk in recipes?

Yes, you can!

Does raw milk cook the same as store-bought milk?

Absolutely! Personally, I think our milk is a little richer in flavor and might make your items taste even better.

How long will my milk last?

There is no set expiration date, but our milk will last longer than typical store-bought milk.  A good rule of thumb is our milk will easily keep 7-10 days if kept properly refrigerated. Please do not keep your dairy in the door of your refrigerator.

Why does it not have an expiration date?

Well, we don’t like to set arbitrary dates and we do not put anything in our milk to make it spoil quicker!  A good rule of thumb is that our milk will easily last 7-10 days if properly refrigerated.

Why does the milk separate?

If you leave raw cow milk in the refrigerator for a day or so, you will start to see it separate into two layers.  The top layer is the cream which can be skimmed off and used as cream or other purposes, or it can just be shaken to mix back into the milk.  It is always good practice to give it a good shake before drinking.

Can I pick or meet the animal I get milk from?

No, all milk is blended together in the chiller before bottling.

“I fed you with milk…”

– 1 Corinthians 3:2

About the Animals

What do the animals eat?

All the animals are on grass and hay 24/7. Additionally:

·      Meat chickens are free-range and receive an organic feed with non-GMO soy.

·      Egg chickens are free-range and receive the best quality commercial feed available in the chicken house.

·      Cows get the highest quality custom commercial feed when they are milked.

·      Pigs also get the highest quality custom commercial feed.

The concept of grass-fed and grass-finished is not realistic in all areas of Texas. There simply is not enough grass in the hot summer and cold winter to provide the animals with the nutrition they need. Also, we do not have enough acreage to sustain 100% grass without supplementing. Especially dairy animals, they give product each day, therefore, we must give them needed nutrition back. We make sure our animals are well cared for and well fed.

Do your animals get antibiotics?

Yes we will give an animal antibiotics. If an animal becomes sick we will treat them under the supervision of a veterinarian. We will do all we can to prevent an animal from dying. During treatment, we will remove the animal from the milk line and discard her milk until all withdrawal periods have been met.

Why do you not feed organic non-GMO feed?

Organic non-GMO feed is simply too expensive and would make the meat unreasonably expensive.

What kind of cows do you have?

Our dairy cows are Jersey and Guernsey.

What kind of goats do you have?

Alpine, Lamancha and Saanen.

What kind of pigs do you have?

Berkshire and Duroc

What kind of chickens do you have?

We have many diffferent breeds of chickens, mostly heritage breeds.

We do not offer in-person farm tours, but check out the Virtual Tour page on this website and please do take in the views while we fulfill your order.

Can we pet the animals?

We would love to let you pet the animals, but our insurance will not allow it.  We kindly ask that you keep your and your children’s hands to themselves.

Are you a coop / farm share?

We are not a coop or farm share. We are just an old-fashioned American small business.  You get to pick what you want and are not tied to any contracts or other agreements.

We have a very dedicated staff that are great at what they do. On occasion we do allow volunteers as the schedule and season allows. We will post on FaceBook and here when we will have volunteer days.
